ZAM JOHNSON06-28-2020

(Zam Johnson, painter & composer, born in Los Angeles, California.)

As a young boy, he started painting with his father, who was also an artist. He started taking painting seriously in the early 80s. Soon after, Zam would showcase his art at various underground galleries, such as: Roger Wong Gallery and Doctor Gene Scott Gallery. He would go on to change his career path, and become one of the top musician in Los Angeles. Zam came to Berlin in 1987 to write music for an independent movie. His career took off as a very in-demand composer for theater, film scores, and live concert work. During this time he exhibited his paintings at Carla Fuehr Gallery in Munich, until 1995. In 2000, he started working on new ideas and painting again. Norton Wisdom and Bob Rutmann saw his work and were exquisitely impressed. He held an exhibition at Berlin's Showcase Gallery, as well as the Galeries Lecoq. Through Norton Wisdom, he connected with Saiid Tlemcani, owner of the Galerie d`art in Casablanca / Morocco. Zam produced a lot of differently-sized paintings; oil on canvas, paper drawings, acrylic on canvas, etc.

Press:

“Zam new paintings are moving towards three-dimensional pictures. His ideas of painting and sculptures are blurring the lines of mixed media. The painting plays tricks on the eye. After looking at the paintings, intense figures emerge to the forefront. Colors that do not seem to work together, come together in a fantastic sea of color. A must-see art opening
